The Manly Scenic Walk wasn't exactly made for strollers. We carried the stroller up and down more steep stairs than we could count.

Eilat, Israel (on the Red Sea) - Taste the Honey.

Katie: This was such a cool morning. Young Jewish students studying the Torah (Torah = law of the Lord) under a rabbi do this their first morning of school. The rabbi gives the child a slate on which is written something like "May the Torah be my life". Then he puts a little honey on the slate, and instructs them to lick the honey. It is a tangible lesson for them to begin learning, at a very young age, that following God's law is sweeter than honey (Psalm 19).

This is the silverback of the zoo's troop of gorillas. Each troop tends to have only one silverback (male), and then several females and young. It's easy when you're looking at all the gorillas in the enclosure to think of them as males because they are so muscular and beefy-looking, but when this guy comes out there is absolutely no question who the male in the troop is!

Nana Takahashi: He is terrifying in person.

Sher Takahashi: Kind of looks like me waking up after a bad night. But he's got more black hair then I do.

All is Well...

Sun, May 23 - ... just a lot busier with a baby! Since February, we've enjoyed a trip to visit friends and family in Vancouver, B.C. (and catch some Olympic spirit!), a trip to Florida including the Keys, Disney World Magic Kingdom and Everglades National Park, and lots of time with family. We'll try to get some new pictures up here of what we've been up to before Naomi turns one...

Christmas 2009

Wed, Feb 3 - Since Naomi was born less than 2 weeks before Christmas, our holiday was a little different this year. But our families were great about adapting plans so we could join in as we were able, and we enjoyed celebrating with both sides of the family at different points, including a trip to the beach.

New Year's: Malabuyo Visit and Joshua Tree Trip

Wed, Feb 3 - On New Year's Eve Joe, Jessica, Andy, Oli, and Lem Malabuyo came over to see Naomi. We had a fun time hanging out, and then the next day we headed out to Joshua Tree for a day of rock climbing with Mom, Dad, Andy, Joe, Jessica, Tomoko, and Caeley. Katie was feeling good enough to do a climb only 3 weeks after giving birth. Another highlight was doing some Aussie-style rappelling.
