About Us
Daniel Peckham
Myers-Briggs: ISTP (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, Perceiving)
- Artisan-Crafter
ISTPs are very practical, precise, efficient, quiet,
reserved, objective, factual. They are the craftsmen. They are good
at exploration and usually possess tireless energy in pursuing the
object of their search. Crafters' particular
nature is most easily seen in their mastery of tools of any and
all kinds, from microscopic drill to supersonic jet, from potter's
wheel to grand piano. A tool is any implement that extends or varies
our human powers -- vehicles, musical instruments, cutting devices,
and weapons are just four of the many categories. Crafters have
a natural ability to command tools, to bend them to their wishes,
and to become adept at all the crafts requiring tool skills.
Regarding spirituality, ISTPs prefer action over
prayer and so must find ways of prayer that can be used while working.
The Prayer of the Practice of the Presence of God (remembering that
God is with us always) and the Jesus Prayer are well-suited to this
type. These forms help ISTPs to experience God in all the ordinary
events of daily life. ISTPs thrive on deep thinking and concentration.
They need orderly structure as well as self-discipline.
Things that make you say "AWEsome!!": My wife,
a good broadband connection (or better yet, give him Wi-Fi!), rope
swings, fresh baked bread, computer shows, almond butter, being
in the tropics, rain on a rugby day.
|
 |
Pet Peeves: After more than a year of leaving this space blank
(since neither of us could think of anything that annoys him) ... I've
finally discovered what ticks Daniel off: malfunctioning inanimate objects
(like computers, machines, etc.).
|

|
Interests/Abilities: database programming, web design,
networking; scuba diving; physics; rugby; canball; basketball; spelunking;
traveling; tree climbing; leading hikes or trips; diagramming sentences.
Most Embarrassing Story: In high school, my friend Jon Barr
and I were speed-racing down one particular water slide. Being a
Philippine waterpark, the slide was concrete, not some nice fiberglass
... a bit rough. I was in the lead, sliding down as aerodynamically
as possible. But as I flew into the pool at the end of the slide,
I realized that I'd left my swim-shorts behind on the slide!

What would you change about yourself
if you could: More balance in my life when I get too focused;
lack of incentive to set goals.
What would your wife change: the annoying noises I make with my
mouth.
The coolest thing you haven't done
yet: underwater spelunking.
Favorite thing to do with the guys:
blow up things.
Memory of best date with Katie: Walking
to the Trout
Inn pub in Oxford, eating there, and roasting chestnuts over the
open fire outside.
If it wasn't for God's saving grace
through Jesus Christ, I'd probably be a: self-consumed materialist
with lots of expensive electronic toys.

Myers-Briggs: INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging)
- Idealist-Counselor
Idealists, as a temperament, are passionately concerned
with personal growth and development. Idealists strive to discover
who they are and how they can become their best possible self --
always this quest for self-knowledge and self-improvement drives
their imagination. And they want to help others make the journey.
Idealists are naturally drawn to working with people, and whether
in education or counseling, in social services or personnel work,
in journalism or the ministry, they are gifted at helping others
find their way in life, often inspiring them to grow as individuals
and to fulfill their potentials.
Spiritually speaking, it is important that INFJs
develop an immense trust in the goodness, love, and care of God:
since the INFJ can see problems and dangers where others remain
blind, the INFJs must overcome discouragement through heroic trust
in God. Journal keeping is a very effective form of prayer for the
INFJ since they are usually facile in their ability to choose the
right word or metaphor to express the inexpressible truths of God.
Symbols and poetic images are especially important to INFJs and
allow them to express their creative insights and intuitions.

Pet Peeves: waiting when
I know where I want to go, physical aches (like headaches, etc.),
when people try to sound impressive (including myself), knowing
I'm not getting through to my students, being flattered or manipulated,
being deceived
|
Interests/Abilities: teaching literature, swimming, running, scuba
diving, writing, backpacking, some web design, biking
| Most Embarrassing Story: On the first day of 7th grade I
was so nervous standing by myself that when a girl finally came up
to talk to me, I threw up all over her (... just before the bell rang
to go to first period ...). |
 |

Nervous
Habits: I jiggle my knee sometimes (when there's a lot to
be done), but more often I'll get really quiet and withdrawn (especially
when I'm feeling self-conscious). |

Yum ... nice and green!
|
Favorite Foods: Granny Smith apples, homemade white
bread, dried apricots, fish, mangos, pommelo,
veggie pizza, dried cranberries with almonds
Favorite Junk Food: ice cream! (almost anything chunky...
the best is either mint Oreo or ube [sweet potato]), chocolate digestive
biscuits from Sainsbury's
in UK
|
This one doesn't have the chocolate on the top,
plus it's the more expensive McVitie's brand, but that's okay |
What would you change about yourself
if you could: I'd probably want to be less stingy and inflexible
and calculating; just be able to roll with the punches more often
and have a heart that freely gives away. ... or I'd be less controlling
of people or situations and just let things be what they are ... or
I would analyze less and live more.
|
What would your husband change: Hm ... probably rest
more securely in the constant love God has for me in the face of
my failures and flaws.
The coolest thing you haven't done yet: hang gliding.
|
 |
Favorite thing to do with girlfriends: talk, read out loud (with
lots of interruptions for discussion), give backrubs, take walks, glorify
lemons
Memory of best date with Daniel: Oh this is hard ... most fun:
dinner at Ruby's on the Huntington
Beach pier and playing tackle rugby on the beach; most meaningful: eating
at Mimi's after we got engaged
... dinner at the Nosebag
when he visited me in Oxford ... dinner at Italian restaurant in Davao
and walking on the beach ... walking from Oxford to the Trout Inn pub
for dinner and roasting chestnuts over an open fire, and stargazing on
the walk back ...

Pet you're trying to convince Daniel to get: orangutan
(Even though I reminded Daniel that "orang hutan" in Indonesian
means literally, "jungle man," he still won't give in!) |
If it wasn't for God's saving grace through Jesus Christ, I'd probably
be a: Mormon or neo-Platonist.
Thing that makes you the most different from your husband: if
we're talking non-physical, knowing what I want and setting my mind on
getting there no matter what (oh yeah, and our feelings on pizza: I like
veggie and he likes meat lovers' ...)
Also, check out Daniel's really old personal
home page, which has all sorts of fun stuff ...
