Katie: I'm so glad Erica was there through the labor too! Even with a 9-month-old of her own, she drove all the way up to LA and cheered me on through the tough part. (And then stayed around afterwards to help us figure out breastfeeding! Sure is great to have a postpartum nurse for a sister...) Love you E!
SherTakahashi: Thank you Hilary...God bless you.
Emily: She was one cool midwife. I'm referring any Kaiser patients I know to her.
Melissa Sturgeon: Congrats and wow you are lucky! I ended up with 2 midwives I had never met who delivered Caden because they were changing shifts just as I was 10cm and ready to push. But it turned out just fine. They didn't do much anyways. Andrew and I did all the work until the 20 minutes of pushing at the very end and the stitching part.
Katie: Melissa - I'm glad it turned out ok. I had a nurse shift change right as I began pushing, but it ended up being huge that I was able to have Hilary there the whole time, as her discernment in the delivery was crucial (and saved me from having a c-section!)
Erica: A baby leash, that's awesome!
Katie: Inspired, of course, by Sweet Pea's Uncle Andy, and the the famous "PUT THAT KID ON A LEASH!!!" he earned so many years ago. :)
Mom Takahashi: That's ok, Andy - they said that about me too, when I was little. My brother, Phil said: "tie her up, Mom . . . I told you you should tie her up!"
John Moore: If you look at the round "knob" in the bottom middle of the frame and then look straight down (at approx 11:00 o'clock) Daniel is standing with his right hand on the banister - looking up and across the amazing staircase...looks like he has a dark colored strap on his right shoulder..
Joe: Um... U sure that's him?
Jordan: This is the side of the Taj Mahal where the kids in Slumdog Millionaire lived for a period of time...
Joe: Also helps settle the stomach and aids in digestion, I've heard.
Jordan: its amazing!!! And yes Joe you're right
Daniel: Naomi likes her special macbook
Mom Peckham: Hi-tech baby!
Sher Takahashi: I'm jealous - Naomi already has her laptop . . . and I only have two breadboards!
Emily: Next she'll be stealing Daniel's camera...
Mom Takahashi: What is it about ALL moms when they are holding their babies - look at the eyes of these mommies - they just can't escape the glow . . .
Kirsten: Beautiful, baby-wearing mamas!!
Daniel: Wait, why do we have so many photos of Lem?
Joe: You're the one that posted them. =)

Christmas in Corona & Skiing in Big Bear

Mon, Dec 29, 2008 - We celebrated Christmas with the Nystrom clan in Corona. As always, it was great to be with that side of the family. Then Joe, Jessica, Andy, and I went up to Big Bear for some cross-country skiing for 2 days. It was great fun to be in the snow, and learn a bit more cross-country skiing from Andy. We managed to lose one snow chain, and break the second, so we had to buy new chains while we were up there.

Nearby Fires Are Not Threatening Us...

Sat, Nov 15, 2008 - For family who is far away, you may hear about the fires that have been burning in Santa Barbara and Orange Counties. There is a fire in Brea area, which is the town right next to ours, east of the 57 Freeway (which is about 5 miles from our house). So I think a lot of the area along Brea Cyn Rd, where I bike, are burning. However, it sounds like when the fire jumped to the west side of the 57, firemen were able to put it out.
We are not very concerned at this point, as the fire would still have to travel several miles, and through city blocks (not brush) to reach us. But do please keep praying, as many people have lost their homes. Please pray especially for some of our relatives who live in Corona (where there is another fire), several families in our church, and Daniel's boss, who all live near fire areas. Here are some photos of the damage to a neighborhood and high school east of the 57 freeway, about 5 miles from our house.

Annual Halloween Party at the Nicks

Sun, Nov 2, 2008 - Katie and I enjoyed a fun time at the Nick's Halloween party, just like we did last year. Katie was a ghost, and I was a ghost chaser, which is a photographer that tries to photograph ghosts. Ironically, I didn't really take that many photos at the party. I guess because there weren't really any ghosts besides Katie. But we did have lots of dry ice again.

SherTakahashi: My comment to Grandpa Grider was they forgot to put it away.
Emily: Oh wow - I bet someone was in trouble when they found it later! Those things are "medical waste"! :)
Katie: With the curtain there, it looks like this is the remains of the last patient :)
Katie: Side note: In the original placenta pic, Dad is holding up the placenta in his bare hands, so this one's a bit tamer... ;)
Kevin Matsumoto: Looks like steak marinating in Teriakki sauce....LOL
