Bunaken

The day after Katie and I arrived, we headed out to nearby Bunaken Island to enjoy the tropical ocean. Mom & Dad snorkeled while Katie, Joe, Jessica and I (Daniel) went scuba diving (including a night dive). The second day I was planning to dive some more, but got sick and had to skip the remaining dives. Thanks to Scuba.com for letting me borrow the underwater camera to capture some of the beauty we saw.

A striped snail on the right, and a small purple pygmy seahorse in the upper lefthand corner (which we did not notice until we were putting the photo up on the website!)
An amazing, translucent ... thing. It must be a coral of some sort, or a sea squirt (anyone know?).
A parrotfish. You can see the protective bubble of spit he blows around himself when he's waiting for food.

A nudibranch, or slug. This one is probably half an inch long.

These nudibranchs remind me of those gumdrops covered with little candy balls.
Butterflyfish with coral (and something else interesting in the upper lefthand corner... again something we only noticed as we put it up on the website!)

A barber shop shrimp (nicknamed for his claws, which look like the red-and-white, candy-striped barber shop poles). This is NOT the exact shrimp who starred in Finding Nemo (dentist's fish tank), but I think he's a second cousin.

No, not an underwater mine - this is some kind of sea urchin! Each of those spikes are about 5 inches long.
