Climbing Matterhorn Peak out of Twin Lakes, Bridgeport, CA - Peckham Photos

Climbing Matterhorn Peak, Twin Lakes, CA

After Joe's wedding, the rest of the family headed up to Twin Lakes outside Bridgeport for some camping, hiking, and mountain climbing. Andy had picked out the impressive-looking Matterhorn Peak that Andy and I were going to climb (2-day climb). Mom, Dad, and Katie joined us for the first part of the trip (day hike).

Before parting ways, Andy asked Katie if she wanted to join us for the climb, and since she was feeling better than expected (despite being pregnant), she decided to join us. That made the adventure even better since we had 3 people but only 2 ice axes, 2 crampons, 2 sleeping bags, and a 2-man tent. The wooden ice axe that my dad carved for Andy worked fine for him, and he survived the night without a sleeping bag...

Oh, and I just have to mention that my SLR camera mysteriously stopped working as soon as we got to a certain altitude, which was by far the biggest bummer of the whole trip. Thanks to Dad for letting me borrow his point n shoot, which is what most these photos were taken with.

carlos: Matterhorn doesn't need Crampons in summer.

in winter the sawtooth ridge has 20+ feet of Snow.

Winter accents would need Crampons.

Katie: Mattherhorn kentuk

Katie: that would have been a GREAT shot: beautiful, peaceful sunset in the back, tranquil silhouette of Andy spewing out all his lunch

Katie: wow. this may be the first picture I've ever seen of Andy where he looks... short?

Daniel: I look so cool in my shorts and gaiters

Katie: The gaiters look even cooler when you notice my shabby (soaking wet) trail runners right next to you... heh

Katie: Or ready to rocket straight up into the air, take your pick. :)

Daniel: I wonder which side is north-facing?
