This is the wall opposite "School of Athens," and it depicts Goodness, or theology. It's called "The Disputation of the Blessed Sacrament" and we liked it almost better than "Athens"! In the upper center, you see the Trinity (Jesus on the throne, the Holy Spirit as a dove below Him, and the Father behind and above Jesus). Seated on Jesus' right and left are various significant figures from Christian history and the Bible (interestingly, Raphael alternated the patriarchs and prophets with apostles and martyrs). So you have (L-R): Peter the Apostle, Adam, John the Apostle, David, St. Laurence, Judas Maccabees, St. Stephen, Moses, St. James the elder, Abraham, and the Apostle Paul. Pretty interesting to think of the conversations that might be happening between, say, Peter and Adam, eh? In the bottom half of the painting is the Church Militant, including famous figures from Church history like St. Augustine, Savonarola, St. Jerome, St. Ambrose and Dante.
